Nitrogen Sources

S.C.U.® is a coated, slow-release nitrogen. S.C.U.® is produced by applying a coating of molten sulfur on heated urea granules, then adding an additional sealant to improve the integrity of the coating. In much the same way as encapsulation permits slow release of cold medication, this double coating provides a physical barrier for the urea, which is then slowly broken down by moisture, microorganisms and abrasion. Although S.C.U.® is very effective, it is not quite as predictable as reacted products like Nitroform® and Nutralene®. However, the coating process is considerably less costly than a reaction process, making S.C.U.® very popular in the lawn maintenance business and in consumer lawn fertilizers sold through the lawn and garden retail industry.
