Nitrogen SourcesMethylene Urea Technology (MU)Urea formaldehyde-based fertilizers are comprised of short-chain and long-chain polymers of methylene urea. The slow release characteristics of the fertilizer are dependent on the percentage and length of the long-chain polymers. The longer the chain, the less soluble the nitrogen is and the slower its release rate. Our methylene urea products have a high percentage of the shorter-chain molecules called methylenediurea (MDU) and dimethylenetriurea (DMTU). MDU and DMTU are degraded by microbes to provide controlled nitrogen feeding over a period of 4-10 weeks. These polymers provide a uniform colour response and improved turf density without surge growth. Because the nitrogen is released by microbes, nitrogen is available under a wide range of environmental conditions.
